Bopkin Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 October 2026
The short version. You can play Bopkin without an account. Your progress lives on your phone. If you sign in with Game Center, your scores and progress are saved online so they follow you to a new phone and appear on the leaderboards. Bopkin is free because it shows ads, provided by Google AdMob. We collect usage data (no names or emails) to improve the game, and you can switch it off in Settings. We never sell your data and never ask for your email, real name or location.
Who we are
This policy is from Bopkin ("we", "us"), based in the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us at bopkingame@gmail.com.
What we collect, and why
1. Game data on your phone
Your Stars, unlocked Bopkins, records, streak and settings are stored on your phone. They stay there unless you sign in with Game Center (below). Deleting the app deletes them.
2. Game Center and leaderboards (only if you sign in)
If you sign in with Apple Game Center, Apple gives us a player ID for Bopkin and your Game Center name. We use them to:
- show your name and best scores on Bopkin's leaderboards, which other players can see;
- save your progress (Stars, collection, records) online so it is on any phone you sign in on;
- record each game you finish: score, game mode, how long it took and the app version, to rank scores fairly and stop cheating.
We never see your Apple ID, email or contacts. This is needed to provide the features you asked for (performing our contract with you). It is stored with our database provider, Supabase.
3. Usage data (you can turn this off)
To learn what is fun and what is broken, the app sends events: for example a game started or ended, a screen opened, a popup answered, an item unlocked, an ad offered or watched, and errors. Each event carries a random ID created by the app, the app version and the platform. If you sign in with Game Center, events are also linked to your Bopkin account number, so two phones count as one player. Events never include your name, Game Center ID, email or advertising ID, and we turn off location lookup from your IP address.
These events go to PostHog, hosted in the European Union. We use them under our legitimate interest in improving and fixing the game. You can stop this at any time with the "Share usage data" switch in Bopkin's Settings. Anything not yet sent is deleted.
4. Ads
Bopkin shows ads through Google AdMob. Some are videos you choose to watch for a reward; others appear between Classic games. To show and measure ads, Google and its ad partners receive information from your device, such as your IP address, device type, operating system, app usage related to ads, and, only if you allow it, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA).
- Tracking on iPhone: the first time you choose to watch a video, iOS asks whether Bopkin may track you. If you say no, ads are not personalised using your advertising ID. You can change this in iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- UK, EEA and Switzerland: before any ads load, Google's consent form asks whether ads may be personalised. If you don't consent, you may still see non-personalised ads.
- US states with privacy laws: you can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for ads.
- Where these choices apply, you can change them at any time with Privacy choices in Bopkin's Settings.
Google's use of this data is governed by How Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy. Bopkin asks AdMob not to show mature ads.
5. Reminders
If you turn on streak reminders, the reminder is scheduled on your phone. No push service and no server is involved.
6. App Store ratings and purchases
Ratings and any in-app purchases are handled by Apple. We do not receive your payment details.
Who we share it with
| Who | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Leaderboards and online saves (Game Center players only) | Cloud servers; may be outside the UK |
| PostHog | Usage data, unless switched off | European Union |
| Google AdMob and its ad partners | Showing and measuring ads | Worldwide |
| Apple | Game Center, App Store, ratings, purchases | Worldwide |
When data leaves the UK, it is protected by the safeguards the law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses. We do not sell your personal information for money. In some US states, ad personalisation counts as "selling" or "sharing", which you can opt out of as described above.
How long we keep it
- Leaderboard entries, game records and online saves: while your account is active, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Usage data: up to 2 years, then deleted.
- Ad data: kept by Google under its own policies.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, or for a copy of it. To delete your leaderboard entries and online save, email us at bopkingame@gmail.com with your Game Center name. We reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority.
Children
Bopkin is a game for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, we will let you know in the app.
